shook down my twitter bookmarks for some beloved fmvs/edits
Wednesday, 22 April 2026 06:10 pmbuffy | dog days are over
biblical, it's literally mostly just clips of buffy running but all the little narrative choices work so well with the lyrics. "leave all your love and your longing behind / you can't carry it with you if you want to survive" set to clips of spike, angel, and faith, whom she all loved and had to leave behind to keep moving forward....cinema. and the bittersweet irony of the dog days never being over for her, not even til the end -- had to die to be the hero and then come back to life to be the hero and then do that all over again because the world kept needing her to save it. kills me so bad.
buffy and faith | the last time
goated fuffy fmv the storytelling is seriously so masterful, op needs to get an editing job like that one heated rivalry fanvidder. using the dialogue between faith and robin and "i think you need to brush up on your buffy and faith history" to frame their relationship going back to the beginning....that fragile, tenuous stretch when buffy was making so much effort with her and faith kept fucking it all up.....the 2 seconds of fuffy happy moments leading up to the watershed fallout.....their equal capacity for violence against each other......buffy giving faith another chance again and again until she snaps and faith tries to atone for her sins all too late.....all leading up to the insane sequence of "there's only supposed to be one" "into every generation, a slayer is born. one girl in all the world...." to "we're slayers girlfriend, the chosen two!" "no one else can feel it but us" literallyyyyy the most nauseating heartbreaking romantic same-coin motif of all time WE'RE THE CHOSEN TWO! i love the song choice paralleling the themes of grace and second chances and forgiveness for someone who has hurt you and yet you can't help but love anyway.
buffy | white winter hymnal
genuinely gutwrenching edit starting with a sweet and wistful montage of the scoobies in their transitory moments -- walking off together, observing each other, little moments of friendship -- and then of them grieving, all the build up to buffy's death, and finally when the music kicks in it's to the shot of buffy's grave, framed lovingly by the trees swaying in the wind. the first time i watched this it landed like a kick to the chest and made me so emotional. i do find the clip of buffy swan diving into the portal visually goofy and incongruent to everything else but it's so worth it to get to the end.
buffy | apple
myyyyy beautiful cursed slayers. i can't believe this is an unfinished throwaway edit by op. my all time favorite narrative exploration in the show is of the slayer line and how they're connected through this lineage of violence and duty and loneliness, and apple is a funny but shockingly apt song for it.
buffy | in the navy
a clever edit with an actual thesis, paralleling the U.S military complex with the forced conscription of the slayer girls as young soldiers sent off to fight someone else's war....op you're the only bitch in this house i respect.
yellowjackets | out of the woods
unfortunately going off the potato quality i think this is a reupload of the og edit which doesn't seem to exist anymore. which is soooo sad because this is my favorite yjs one. in general i tend to not like it when the visuals interpret the song lyrics too literally but even just on the surface "are we out of the woods" is immediately thematically devastating so i forgive op for doing it. THEY NEVER ESCAPED THE WOODS. the ending superimposing the team cheering after a win with them devouring jackie's corpse is genius poetic cinema parallels.
yellowjackets | ribs
classic ribs edit guaranteed to snipe me in the brain with the chorus alone. it's true....despite everything there was so much love :')
yellowjackets jackieshauna | guess x super graphic ultra modern girl
this is just funnn i love the song mashup and the juxtaposition between the violent and happy moments
yellowjackets | black skinhead
perfectly encapsulates how batshit insane but also COOL yellowjackets is as a show from a technical and visual standpoint. the rapid clips juxtaposed with slow moments like misty looking into the camera, lottie screaming, the roman feast, and taissa running on the field is so good. i love the composition of the visuals in beat with the music, op knows how to pick their clips!
aespa | von dutch remix
gorgeous dynamic visuals that highlight the interestingness of aespa's concepts and i love the way op color graded this
kpop ggs | girl, so confusing
op is the goat of kpop edits imo they did the aespa one too.....being able to string together a bunch of clips from such disparate concepts and aesthetics to create this narrative thread of pain and loneliness shifting to friendship and togetherness while still maintaining visual coherence is suchhhh a feat. my favorite moment is when the edit transitions from ningning looking lonely in the crowd to billlie dancing together.....they're both lit with the same golden hue but the change in context feels like finally coming up for air from all the depresso moments. it moved me :')
warrior nun | in this shirt
the way op composes the catholic imagery is sooo pleasing to me like it nails how beautiful and frightening catholicism (in the context of the show but also in life) can be at the same time
2521 heerim | long live
the grip this edit had on me in 2022 was unreal, i had it downloaded on my phone AND laptop so i could watch it offline. i love heerim happy moments :')
2521 heerim | still into you
and i love heerim hateful moments even more lol. the push and pull of their dynamic here is framed so well.
severance | can't catch me now
beautiful and incisively spliced edit that's perfectly narratively in sync with the material. mark's grief in "through the wading grass the months will pass" makes me so sad. olivia rodrigo you have my flowers for inventing the most crushing haunting the narrative song ever.

Search maintenance
Wednesday, 22 April 2026 09:19 amHappy Wednesday!
I'm taking search offline sometime today to upgrade the server to a new instance type. It should be down for a day or so -- sorry for the inconvenience. If you're curious, the existing search machine is over 10 years old and was starting to accumulate a decade of cruft...!
Also, apparently these older machines cost more than twice what the newer ones cost, on top of being slower. Trying to save a bit of maintenance and cost, and hopefully a Wednesday is okay!
Edited: The other cool thing is that this also means that the search index will be effectively realtime afterwards... no more waiting a few minutes for the indexer to catch new content.
